Well, it snowed again last night and they cancelled church again today.
That made for a pretty lazy morning. The kids were running around in their PJ's till 10am or so.
Tye was giving Holt a Piggy-Back up the stairs from the basement to the kitchen. Brandie had her stop about half way up and asked her not to do that because she might fall back and smash Holt. Tye kept coming up the stairs and made it to the top.
She looked at me with big eyes and then started tipping back and forth. I started to run to grab her just as she fell backwards down the stairs. She must have remembered what her mom said and threw herself forward as hard as she could so she wouldn't land on Holt. As she did that, her feet slipped out from under her and she fell forward.
Her feet headed down the stairs and her face slammed into the top step. I got to her just as she headed down the stairs. Her poor face bounced off of every step all the way down.
She did SOOO good though! She never let go of Holt. He had two fists full of her hair and rode on her back all the way down and was not hurt at all.
By the time I got to her at the bottom of the stairs, the blood was gushing pretty good!
We got her calmed down and sucking on some ice, then headed up to the ER.
She was REALLY tough in the ER. The DR put a band-aid across the bottom of her lip and made a little pocket around the cut. He filled it up with an anesthetic gel and let it sit for about 45 mins. We could tell it was numbing her up pretty good because she started talking and smiling again.
When the Dr came back, he had her close her eyes and promise not to open them until he told her to. He started stitching on the outside and got about 4 stitches in her lip before he started pulling it up to see on the inside.
When he lifted it up, he was amazed at how massive the cut was. Her lip was basically cut all the way up to the base of her nose. But, it didn't go all the way through. There were a couple of layers of skin holding it together on the outside, otherwise her lip would have been filleted completely in half.
He put a couple more stitches in on the inside and then finished up around the outside - 7 in total. They'll stay in for 5 days.
She's pretty swollen right now, but is eating and drinking as best as she can. All-in-all, she's doing pretty good!
She's pretty proud that she was able to keep Holt from getting hurt and has a cool story to tell now!
